Essentials of Coffee Brewing
Coffee and grinder:
- Use only freshly-roasted coffee - ideally two days after roast
- Buy coffee in small amounts and enjoy it within three weeks time
- Grind coffee right before brewing
- Use burr grinder to get consistent grind size for optimum extraction
- Medium (like Kosher salt) grind setting for drip and home coffee machine
Water:
- Use filtered or bottled water
- Avoid tap water that has a strong odor and taste, such as chlorine
- Brew water tempature between 195-205 degress Fahreheit
Coffee-to-water ratio (scale usage always recommended for consistency and optimal results):
- Rule of thumb - 2 tablespoons of coffee beans (approximately 18 grams) for 12 oz cup of water (approximately 300 grams). Or 1:17 ratio - every one gram of coffee, use 17 grams of water
Brew time:
- Brew or water contact with ground coffee time between 2:30 to 3:30 minutes.
Storage for whole bean coffee:
- Storage in airtight coffee bag that has a one-way valve, avoid direct sunlight, heat, cold, and moisture.
Enjoy your delicious cup of coffee!
